We had great fun during Space Week as all classes engaged in various activities throughout the week.
4th-6th classes ..............................................
The infant classes enjoyed a space theme in aistear for the week including Role Play- astronauts at a space station, lifting off in space rockets, using a telescope and a rocket launch, Junk Art- create your own rockets using recycled toilet rolls and toil, decorate your own star, Construction- using the large blocks to build a space themed vehicle 7 Small World- space themed bingo.
They also used our BeeBots to complete some coding activities based on space!
1st-3rd classes learned about the Interational Space Station (ISS) and what it was like to work there. They also learned about diet, washing and sleeping on the ISS. To conclude the lesson, they used the ISS tracker to see where to fin its live location. Click here to you'd like to see where it is- https://isstracker.pl/en
They also learned about Mars rovers. They learned about why they are sent to mars, how they land on mars and how they operate. They also built rovers and coded them to explore Mars using our Lego Spike kits and iPads. They also were tasked with naming their rover like the rovers currently exploring Mars.
The children also took part in a Zoom call with Aidan Crowley. Aidan works for the European Space Agency, stationed at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany. There he carries out work to support human exploration of space, in particular looking into innovative new technologies and how they can be used to support Moon and Mars missions.
